Anna joined the financial advisory industry back in 1999 as a sideline to earn extra income for her family. Within three months, she was already earning a decent income from this side hustle. Considering she only spent less than three hours a day on the job, it proved her natural flair for this business and made an easy decision to bid farewell to her full-time job. From then, she devoted herself fully to her career as a financial consultant.
In the beginning, Anna was focused on how much she could earn based on the time invested on building her new career. Her thinking changed after she helped to process a death claim for a client a year later. Anna had recommended an insurance policy to him as he was the sole provider for his family of four, and had zero protection coverage. His wife did not think it was necessary as they were a well-off family with their own business. Six months later, the client met with an accident while on a golfing trip and passed away after being hospitalised for seven days. When Anna found out the news of his demise from his friends three months later, she helped to process his insurance claim—he had secretly bought a policy in spite of his wife’s scepticism.
In Anna’s words:
“When I handed the cheque to my client’s wife, both of us burst into tears. That was really the turning point for me. No matter how others look at you, believe in yourself and that you are doing good by your clients. They may not thank you now, but they will if the unforeseen happens.”
Without this insurance payout, the client’s wife would have been forced to sell their family home and look for a job. Fortunately, she was able to settle down comfortably with the payout and focus on raising their children.
Anna’s Group Director, Sam Wan, encouraged her to put to good use her now-two decades of experience by grooming the next generation and she took up the challenge. Anna proved herself capable when she received the Platinum Club Manager Award in her previous firm for consecutive years from 2015 to 2017. In Anna’s words, “If you believe in insurance and how it can help others, you will excel in this profession. Clients will automatically refer you to their friends and relatives when you do a good job for them. Work hard and don’t fear rejection!”
Cooking is Anna’s passion—it’s the best way to shower her family with love, have fun and take the edge of a really hard day’s work. She can’t wait to be able to host more cosy gatherings for her friends and business associates.
