Wen Kai started his career in the financial services industry right after he had completed his National Service, while waiting to begin his tertiary studies. Throughout his undergraduate years, he continued as a student advisor. Upon graduating, he finally became a full-time financial consultant.
Starting out young and inexperienced was extremely daunting; juggling work with studies was also very challenging. Yet, he managed to outperform himself with a Court of Table (COT) award in 2020 and 2021, despite pandemic times. Wen Kai attributes his success to two factors. First, he met many kind clients who were willing to place their trust in him and journey along with the plans he recommended. Second, he met a good mentor who gave him the best advice: “We should always focus on establishing a good rapport with our clients. Think of how we can impact people positively, advise from the heart and give the best service we can without being pushy. This is the foundation of how to convert strangers to clients.”
Wenkai loves meeting people, talking to them, and he enjoys the opportunities for mutual understanding and growth during these exchanges. He lives for the moments when clients receive their insurance payouts which help relieve their financial difficulties. His advice for youngsters keen to join the industry? Don’t do it for short-term goals like monetary rewards. Focus on the meaning of service and how you can empower your clients to live a fuller life.
Wen Kai loves travelling, preferring soft tourism i.e. spending a few weeks in a country to experience the authentic local culture and what makes the destination unique. Appreciating different cultures helps him widen his personal vision. In his free time, he loves to play football—a sport that has taught him to be a team player and honed his people skills.
